Women’s Premier League Merlins Host Oregon Sports Union
Glendale’s WPL squad will host Oregon Sports Union this weekend, looking not just to improve in league standings but to defeat the ORSU side for the second time this season – this time on home field. ORSU has struggled throughout the season, sitting in fourth place in the league at 2-4. In spite of the team’s record, however, they remain solidly within contention for the post-season, trailing the Merlins and Berkeley All Blues by just five points overall.

Asked about the rematch, Glendale’s Director of Amateur Rugby and Merlins Head Coach Luke Gross has his eyes on the future: “We want to win every game. Period. But my focus remains on the title, which we fully intend to bring back to Glendale when all is said and done. ORSU has a lot to prove this weekend, so we know they’ll bring a tough side. Our Merlins will do the same.” Gross added that the team is particularly excited to open for Glendale’s professional Raptors team, who will be hosting the Denver Barbarians in an exhibition match ahead of Major League Rugby’s second season, which kicks off in January.
The WPL Merlins will be on the road for their next match, the penultimate of the regular season. Traveling back to California, Glendale will face the Berkeley All Blues for the second time, looking to solidify a playoff position with a win. Follow all of the Glendale teams on Facebook and Twitter for full-time scores on all games and additional information. For the 2018 season, the WPL Merlins will be playing on the Infinity Park Stadium pitch, opening for the professional men’s team, the Glendale Raptors.
