Today we finalized our program for the second annual Glendale Rugby Coaching Clinic scheduled the first weekend of May. From the beginning, we have wanted to make this clinic an annual event. We just feel that there is so much that our rugby staff can share with other coaches across the region, and, as the only Major League Rugby Team in Colorado, we feel a sense of responsibility to continue to develop our area high school, college and club rugby programs as they will be the teams that continue to feed players into our program as this professional league grows and more opportunities arise.
As I’ve expressed before, I am a strong believer on pursuing new training opportunities for myself and my coaching staff, and that not only includes various opportunities here and abroad, but also by teaching others. I agree with the old adage that there is no better way to learn than to teach and if you don’t look to expand your knowledge base on a topic, you risk getting stuck in a rut. So, of course, this annual coaching course not only looks to assist other coaches looking for more understanding on various aspects of our sport, but it’s also for our coaches to continue in their development.
We also spent a good deal of time considering last year’s feedback from the coaches in attendance and altered the clinic just a bit so to add even more value. We are keeping the cost low, however, at just $75, so that clinic can appeal to all coaches, paid or volunteer, at all levels. The clinic also includes two catered meals, Friday night’s dinner and Saturday’s lunch, a ticket to the Saturday night Raptors match against Utah, as well as an expanded schedule allowing for a morning session on Sunday for match review.
As you can see we have kept a similar program to last year, keeping many of the topics that were well received and adding a variety of presenters. Feel free to examine the schedule for this second annual Coaching Clinic below and if you are interested in attending, please register via the coaching clinic webpage. Please note that in an effort to keep a high level of interactions between presenters and coaches, we will be cutting off the registrations at 30 attendees.
