Glendale Merlins Travel to Texas to Face Dallas Harlequins
April 14, 2018
Glendale’s Division I Men’s team will travel to Texas on Saturday, facing the Dallas Harlequins for the second time this season. The Merlins handily bested the ‘Quins in late March, when they hosted the Texas team at Infinity Park. As the Red River Conference playoff picture continues to reveal itself, the Harlequins have much at stake this weekend. Saturday’s match will take place at 2pm Central Time.

The Austin Blacks, who remain undefeated after eight games, have slipped ahead of the Dallas Rugby Reds in the conference standings, though along with Glendale all three teams have secured playoff berths. The ‘Quins are in must-win territory on Saturday, but with the Merlins hitting their stride late in the season, victory will be a tall order.
The Glendale side struggled early in the season, plagued by injury and inconsistency. After a strong match against the Dallas Reds last weekend however, one that was decided by a single point scored in the final minute, it’s clear the Merlins are in top form. Head Coach Luke Gross is optimistic about his team’s playoff hopes: “We’re hitting a stride. We’re going into the playoffs hitting our peak. If we stay in this form, we’ll be going in very strong.”
Most of the other Glendale teams will be on the road this Saturday, April 14. The Men’s D2 team will take on Park City Rugby in Park City, Utah, and the Raptors Academy will be in Logan, Utah, facing Utah State University. Glendale’s Division I Women’s team will again host Denver Black Ice on Infinity Park’s turf field.
